My Sailboat

Using the Sailboat Template, decorate your sailboat using paint, markers, or crayons. Add a unique design and include your family members in the boat.

Recycle a box and other materials into a super-fast speedboat so you can travel the world's oceans! What kind of superpower hero will you be in your boat?

Sailboat Letter

Using the large Sailboat Template, draw pictures or write a message for a family member. You might want to tell a real or imaginary story about your experience on a boat. Writing letters to others shows that you care! 

U.S. Navy Flag Codes

Boat captains have flags they can display that have a specific meaning. Many boaters know what the flags mean so it is an easy way to communicate on water visually. Look at the U.S. Navy Signal Flags and draw some of the flags on paper to share a specific code. See if someone in your family can decode your message.  

ABC's with Curious World

•  ABC Trace! Trace uppercase letters, then use them to create words illustrated by playful images.

•  ABC Zoom! From Ambulance to Zeppelin, the ABC's hit the road in this interactive alphabet. 

Water Spray Science

Children learn about evaporation naturally through play. This outdoor experience works best on a warm day. Fill a spray bottle with water. Spray the water on a cement sidewalk or patio. How long does it take for the water spots to disappear? Try the experiment at various times of day. How long does it take for the water to “disappear” in the morning versus the middle of the day or evening? Does it disappear faster when it’s cloudy or sunny? 

Float my Boat!

Gather a variety of recycled materials that could make a boat (empty plastic containers, cardboard, foil, tape, etc.). Examine the materials and then draw a design of your boat. Referring to your drawing, create your boat and test to see if it floats on water in a shallow container of water. If it does not float, redesign your boat, and try again. 

Sea Creature Jump

Using recycled, non-skid, flat materials such as paper, cardboard, or fabrics, create several sea creatures, including a few sharks. Tape or secure the sea creatures to the floor or ground several feet apart. Jump “through the ocean” from sea creature to sea creature. When you come to a shark, jump with only one foot until you land on a safe sea creature again. Change movements and add more sea creatures to make the game more interesting. For example: If you land on a crab, you will crab walk until you reach another sea creature. 

Captain Says Game

This game is like the game Simon Says. Start by choosing a captain. All other players do what the captain says (Examples: The Captain says, “Hop on one foot.” The Captain says, “Run in place.”). If the captain gives directions without starting with “Captain says,” then the others should not follow the direction. This game helps children practice listening skills and self-control. 

Sailboat 1, 2, 3!

Using the Sailboat Numbers template, cut out sailboats 1-5. Mix them up and then rearrange them in numerical order (For more challenge, use higher numbers or turn all the sailboats face down). Turn over one sailboat at a time. Place the sailboat in the correct order by asking does this number come before, after, or between the other sailboats?

Curious World: Buzz, Bee, Buzz

Help the bees fly back to their hives by finishing the flower pattern. 

Og's Story Time

This week, actress Mindy Sterling is reading "Library Lion" by Michelle Knudson (from Storyline Online). As you read along, think about what interesting things you would do to help the library. Draw a picture of different animals taking over the library and all the wacky things they might do! You can also write a letter to the Library Lion and let him know whether you feel he is doing a good job.

Set sail to Percy Island! Using a variety of recycled materials, create a boat so that Paper Percy can sail to Percy Island. Take a photo of Percy sailing and be sure to tag @PrimroseSchools with #PaperPercyChallenge on Instagram.

Each morning, we start our day with the Pledge of Allegiance. Say the Pledge with Percy^®!

Modeling Citizenship

Point out the ways you are being a good citizen as you engage in your daily activities to help your child begin to understand the meaning of the term. (Example: As you pick up trash in your yard, comment on how taking care of the planet is one way to be a good citizen. Before you know it, you will see your child picking up trash, too.) Help your child make a pledge to let your family know what they plan to do around the house to be a good citizen in your household. Have them write or draw their pledge to decorate and hang somewhere in the home to help them remember their pledge each time they walk past it.
