Since opening the first Primrose school in 1982, the health and safety of children and staff has always been the priority. We hold our schools to high standards of safety and cleanliness while maintaining a caring and nurturing environment where children can thrive.

At Primrose Schools, we believe that the health and safety of your child should take into account everything that contributes to their overall well-being. That means caring for as many of their physical, mental and emotional needs as possible, from enhanced sanitation protocols to opportunities to grow as social human beings.

Physical health:

  • Restricting any children or staff with respiratory illness symptoms or fever from attending school and requiring anyone with respiratory illness symptoms to stay home until fever-free for at least 24 hours

  • Frequent disinfecting and sanitizing of toys and surfaces

  • Frequent hand-washing by children and staff, which is embedded in our curriculum and daily staff protocols

  • Daily laundering of crib sheets for infants; for older children, individual cots and blankets are provided for each child and laundered weekly

Mental health:

  • Language and literacy-rich environments where children can communicate with same-age peers and be challenged to develop early literacy skills

  • Opportunities for outdoor play and nature-based learning to encourage safe exploration and scientific thinking

  • Relieving stress and encouraging active bodies through physical activity

Emotional health:

  • Providing learning experiences through music to express and discuss emotions

  • Structured routines to promote consistency and give children a sense of security and stability

  • Promoting interactions with peers to support friendship development and overall social development

Peace of mind for parents:

  • Training teachers on common signs of illness in children, and placing signage in every classroom to keep signs of illness top of mind

  • Continuous health & safety training for Franchise Owners and staff, including first aid and CPR certification

  • Maintaining an up-to-date and customized Safe School Plan posted in all classrooms for easy teacher access
